104_a_topApplicantion and Selection Procedures

  • Applications will be made available to anyone throughout the year, provided either by mail or electronically.
  • Receipt of the properly completed application form, along with required supporting documents (proof of age, driver’s license, birth certificate or other acceptable documentation; copy of high school diploma, GED Certificate or other acceptable documentation) will constitute a completed application.
  • Once an application is deemed complete and an applicant is “eligible for apprenticeship,” their application will be “active” for one calendar year (12 months).
  • Neither a completed application nor a letter indicating that an applicant is eligible for apprenticeship is required before an employer hires an individual as an apprentice; however, being hired by an employer does not guarantee that the individual will be deemed eligible for apprenticeship; all applicants must meet the minimum qualifications in order to be selected by the JATF.
  • Upon determining that an individual does not meet one or more of the qualifications or requirements, or that he or she has made false statements on the application, he or she will be notified either by mail or electronically of their disqualification. The individual will also be notified of the right to appeal their disqualification.
  • Applicants deemed eligible for apprenticeship must find employment with a participating employer in order to be selected by the JATF to enter the apprenticeship program.
  • When an applicant has been deemed eligible for apprenticeship AND has been hired by an employer, the JATF requires a “Letter of Intent to Hire” prior to enrollment in the program.
  • An employer must request a permit from Painters District Council No. 30 (the Union) prior to the date on which the Apprentice begins work.  The JATF will acknowledge a written permit request to constitute a Letter of Intent to Hire.  An applicant will not be enrolled in the program until the JATF receives either a copy of the permit issued by the Union or a written Letter of Intent to Hire.
  • Once an individual has been deemed eligible for apprenticeship and been hired by an Employer, and the JATF has received a Letter of Intent to Hire, an Apprentice Applicant will be required (1) to become a member of the Union in accordance with the Union’s collective bargaining agreement with the participating Employer and (2) to complete and sign an Apprenticeship Agreement in accordance with the Standards of Apprenticeship.  Failure to meet these additional requirements will result in the termination of apprenticeship.
