Political Action, Continued

quinbus_c_tabPDC 30’s Governmental Affairs program provides guidance to members about candidates the Council believes are best suited for local, state, and federal public service; and the Office assists candidates in understanding what is most important to PDC 30 members.

In addition to the offices that get a lot of attention – such as U.S. President, seats within the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, or Illinois Governor – PDC 30 endorses candidates for local offices. Today’s candidate for a local park district board may be asked to vote on important construction contracts that bring work to the local union labor force. A local mayor may be crucial to a city’s decision to hire a responsible contractor to perform publically-funded work.

PDC 30-supported candidates are ones that have actively sought the endorsement of the Council, or are long-standing allies whose commitment to the needs of working people is unquestionable. PDC 30 carefully compares a candidate’s record on labor issues and asks whether they are ideal candidate in today’s political climate.
