Eligibility for health and welfare coverage in the unionized construction trades is generally earned on a quarterly basis. Eligibility is based on how many hours members work during designated Work Quarters. Once they have worked the required amount (or more) in a Work Quarter, they become eligible for coverage during the next Eligibility Quarter. Once eligible, they can combine total hours worked in one Work Quarter with total hours worked in one, two, or three prior Work Quarters to remain eligible even when work hours decrease.
