Mark Guethle is PDC 30's Director of Governmental Affairs. He directs the resources and attention of PDC 30 toward political causes and candidates that favor working families. He frequently gathers PDC 30 members and other community members to join him in participating in Saturday “labor walks,” near-election phone banking, and other efforts to increase voter participation among PDC 30 members. He also represents the interests of PDC 30 members among his counterparts within the IUPAT and other Illinois labor unions.
Mark became a painter at age 19, completed the painting apprenticeship program at the Washburn Trade School, and later, as a union officer, attended officer training through the IUPAT and served as Vice President of the Fox Valley Building Trades. In 1997, he became the first to be hired by the PDC 30 as an Organizer, and, in 2002, was named Director of Governmental Affairs. He currently serves as the Chair of the Political Action Committee of the Central Region of the IUPAT.
Mark's public service includes his successful run for Village Trustee in North Aurora, from 2003-2005, followed by an appointment to the Village Board in 2009 and election to a four-year term in 2011. He was elected in 2006 and again in 2010 to serve on the Democratic State Central Committee, where he represents the 14th Congressional District. He is also a gubernatorial appointed member of the Illinois Department of Labor's Advisory Board.
Mark is widely considered an architect of the dramatic expansion of the Kane County Democratic Party, and is credited for the positive performance of several Democratic candidates in elections within the Collar Counties. ln 2002, he was elected chairman of the Kane County Democratic Party and, in 2007, received the Kane County Democratic Party’s highest honor, the Harry S. Truman Award. He serves on the board of the Illinois Democratic Chairmen's Association.
