On December 4th, 2007, the Delegates
of District Council No. 30 endorsed Illinois Senator, Barack Obama,
for President of the United States. Secretary-Treasurer Chuck Anderson
stated, “We are confident that an Obama Administration will put a stop
to the constant attempts to water-down existing protections for working
people, and he will be willing and able to restore the role of the National
Labor Relations Board as a force that helps working people.” Learning
of the endorsement, Obama stressed his commitment to working people:
“I am honored to have the support of Painters District Council 30. I
am running for President to fight for working people, to support their
right to organize and to make sure our economy works for Main Street
– not just Wall Street. I have worked closely with organized labor in
Illinois, and will fight by your side in my campaign and when I am President.”
